Inkjet printers: Print by spraying ink; offer excellent color results and natural color reproduction, making them suitable for photos and documents with graphics and text. Drawbacks include high ink consumption and a tendency for printheads to clog if left unused for extended periods.
Laser printers: Use toner and electrostatic imaging; offer high speed, crisp and sharp text, and low cost per page, with output that is water-resistant and durable. Drawbacks include average color performance and a relatively higher machine price.
Dot-matrix printers: Print by using pins to strike an ink ribbon; feature low-cost consumables and the ability to produce multi-part carbon copies, making them suitable for specialized applications like invoices and receipts. Drawbacks include high noise levels and average print quality.
