Heat transfer machines can be categorized by type into several major groups: flat heat presses, high-pressure heat presses, swing-away heat presses, mug presses, plate presses, and cap presses.

Flat Heat Press: Used for transferring designs onto flat items such as garments, canvas bags, and mouse pads; also known as a flatbed press.
Mug Press: Designed specifically for cylindrical mugs to create personalized photo mugs or color-changing mugs.
Plate Press: Used for flat, rigid items such as plates, ceramic tiles, and metal sheets.
Cap Press: Features a curved design specifically for transferring images onto finished caps.
Multifunctional Heat Press: Combines mug, plate, cap, and flat heat pressing capabilities into a single, versatile unit.

Categorized by structure and pressure mechanism
(Primarily regarding flatbed heat presses; these factors affect the physical effort required and the quality of the transfer):

‌Standard Type‌: Requires the most physical effort; exerts relatively low pressure; yields average results when transferring onto thicker items.
‌High-Pressure Type‌: Utilizes a central-axis lever mechanism; requires less effort and delivers higher pressure; produces superior results on 100% cotton.
‌Swing-Away Type‌: The heating plate can be swung aside (up to 180 degrees), preventing hand burns; capable of effectively transferring onto thicker items; currently a mainstream choice.
